Starck Eyes was created in 1995 from a design collaboration between interior designer Philippe Starck and eyewear designer Alain Mikli. The philosophy behind Philippe Starck's designs is the relationship between man and matter.
The specialised hinge mechanism is influenced by the human shoulder joint. This ball and socket joint allows multi-directional movement. This feature makes the frames more durable compared to conventional hinges, as it doesn’t weaken when repeatedly placed on and off the head. The bio-hinge also makes Starck eyewear particularly comfortable as it ensures that they are constantly fixed to the temples.
